The Christian festival day commemorating the resurrection of Jesus following his execution and burial by the Romans at Calvary around 30 AD. It is the final day of the Christian Holy Week, which includes Maunday Thursday and Good Friday. The holiday is linked to the Jewish Passover, pescha in Hebrew, both by its origin and its symbolism. The English term “Easter,” however, derives from the pagan month in which the goddess Ēostre was celebrated and which was later Christianized.
