Reddit users participated in a coordinated effort to purchase shares of a stock, like Gamestop, shorted by hedge fund groups. As the stock rose, ordinary civilians were making astronomical profits while hedge funds on Wall Street take massive losses. In effort to mediate the losses, major exchanges halted or limited trading the Gamestop stock.
