The magnificent Slioch mountain on the shores of Loch Maree is an impressive sight at any time of year, but in Winter she really comes alive with a coating of snow to her upper reaches and weather systems rapidly moving through. Across the loch from her southern flanks there is a very fine caledonian forest consisting mainly of Scots Pine that dates back to nearly 7000BC in its origins. As one ascends to higher levels the canopy becomes more sparse until eventually only a few lone pines still stand tall and proud, this being one of them.
