Bill Murray owned a Japanese phrase book called "Making Out In Japanese”. Before leaving for Tokyo to film “Lost In Translation,” he remembered to throw the book in his luggage.
Bill would take the book to dinner with him and go around to the sushi chefs and ask, “Can we get in the back seat?” and inquire, “Do you have a curfew?"
“It was a little dangerous”, Bill said, “Because they had big, big knives. but they thought it was funny.” As Bill left the sushi restaurant, he met a fan who seemed a bit perplexed after she met Bill. When somebody asked what Bill said, the woman said Bill asked - in perfect Japanese - if her parents knew about him.
