Future Cities #7: Dharavi #2; Mumbai
This photograph is from my Future Cities project about informal urban development in the world's cities. These photographs were made between 2010 and 2015.
Dharavi is among the world’s largest informal communities by population, despite it’s relatively small physical size. Over 1 million people live in the neighborhood, which covers just over two square kilometers (less than one square mile). The community, located between two busy railways in Mumbai, was founded in 1884 and has a vibrant billion-dollar economy based largely on manufacturing.
