【戯猫美人画 】~ the bride of the fox ~

This work is based on the motif of Ukiyoe with a cat and a woman as its subject. The kimono worn by the woman and the sliding doors in the background are made of Kyo Yuzen, a traditional Japanese costume, and the use of the design and the colors of the herb-dyeing technique give the work a profound and delicate expression. In Japan, rain on a sunny day is called "Kitsune no Yomeiri" (the bride of the fox). It is said to be an auspicious "harbinger of happiness.
