Western society has such a sad and troubling relationship with death. This card signifies not just the end of something, but the beginning of something else. Our ego keeps us focused on the aspect of loss. Death represents change. Egotism, self obsession, the lack of a rich inner world and a disconnection from nature make change a very difficult experience to embrace. We react with fear, and although sometimes it is hard to celebrate, great rewards come from acceptance of its nature.
