In this building the "Ferri" wing of Volterra housed the most famous patient of the Manicomio. Fernando "Oreste" Nannetti became known in the art scene under his pseudonym NOF4 and is considered by many as an icon in the "brut art". Fernando did not have an easy life was already in 1934 as a 7 year old first in an institution for children. In 1956 Nannetti was arrested for insulting an official and in the same year was imprisoned in Volterra. There, with the help of his belt and animal bones, he began to carve his own writings and hieroglyphics into the walls of the courtyard.
