One of the most important things to have when chasing storms is an escape route; always have an alternate way to evade the storm. In July of 2020, I was chasing a tornado warned storm in eastern Colorado. I Positioned on a dirt road perpendicular to the east moving storm. As the storm approached my location, I started driving my planned route to the south. I immediately saw a new cell had quickly developed in front of me and had become severe warned for large hail. Not wanting to drive through hail on the dirt road, I activated my escape route and turned back to the the north.
