In mythology, Gaia is considered to be the first element from which the descendants of gods emerged. Although Gaia plays a major role in Hesiod's Theogonia, she is never seen in Homer's poems. According to Hesiod, Gaia was born second only to Chaos, and Eros (love) came right after him.
