Baba Yaga appears in many Slavic folk tales as a powerful sorceress. In one tale, young Vasilisa’s wicked stepmother forces her to fetch fire from the witch in the woods. After Vasilisa passes several trials, Baba Yaga gives her a skull lantern and sends her home, where the lantern spontaneously burns the wicked stepmother and stepsisters to ashes.
And that was just the beginning.
