Wakanda (/wəˈkɑːndə, -ˈkæn-/) is a fictional country appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics.[2] It is located in sub-Saharan Africa, and is home to the superhero Black Panther. Wakanda first appeared in Fantastic Four #52 (July 1966), and was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.[3] The fictional country has been noted for its Afrofuturism in the film Black Panther,[4][5][6] with the country cited as a possible example of how African nations might have developed in the absence of European colonialism.[7][8][9]
