Humans were unable to understand the ancient creature that lived in the ocean. That is why many coastal villagers called it God. And they even worshipped the creature with many eyes that they sometimes saw near the shore. But no one could ever see it. Except for one of the wizard apprentices from the underwater library, who lingered too long reading his books. He looked into its eyes, and they looked at him. And he understood that there was nothing divine about this creature. There is only a consciousness beyond the control of the human mind.
He couldn't know anything about it, he couldn't understand it. But he could watch.
He could see it.
