‘Ideas alone can be works of art; they are a chain of development that may eventually find some form. All ideas need not be made physical… The words of one artist to another may induce an idea chain, if they share the same concept.’ Sol LeWitt, 1969

With the emergence of NFT’s the art world has the opportunity to explore a new wealth of ideas. This body of work aims to explore further the ideas stemming from the conceptual art movement and the dematerialization of the art object stemming from the 70's. This body of NFT’s like the majority of my work aims to ask questions, in this instance  regarding its own form as an NFT and its position as art, not necessarily to find answers, but to expand the debate and further develop the idea chain.

The Decentralization of the Art Object

‘This is not an apple (NFT)’ is an appropriation of Magritte's 'Ceci n'est pas une pomme' exploring the same semiotics under the digital decentralized evolution. The wording transition from, ‘Ceci n'est pas une pomme’ (this is not an apple) to ‘ceci n’est pas une NFT’ (this is not a NFT), venturing into the debate that whilst the work is a NFT, the visual creation is just a representation of the NFT, in the same way the pixelated painting of the apple isn’t actually an apple, nor the original painting. The work aims to provoke a response to further develop the ideas chain.
