Inspired by “Le ravissement de Psyché” by William-Adolphe Bouguereau.
Venus, the goddess of love, in a fit of jealousy towards the beauty of Psyche, asks her son Cupid to use one of his arrows to make the girl fall in love with the most hideous and demonic creature on earth. Cupid is about to carry out his mother's request when one of his own arrows accidentally falls from his hand and wounds him. Cupid thus falls madly in love with Psyche and takes her with him to heaven.
