Yuan Xiao Jie (元宵节) colloquially known as Chap Goh Mei marks the final day of the Lunar New Year celebrations. "Yuan Xiao" means "first night", or the first night of the year that the moon is full.
On this night, people would go to the streets with a variety of lanterns under the full moon, watch Lion or Dragon Dance, and take part in Chinese riddles and games. It is also traditionally an evening reserved for potential courtship and finding love. One of the festival's long-standing traditions involves unmarried ladies throwing mandarin oranges into the sea in hopes of finding a good husband.
