The Contact

This work titled, 'The Contact' is from my series 'Folk SciFi' ,where I have tried to reimagine characters from native traditions in a Science fiction environment.This artwork is inspired from the character 'Darike' from a traditional theatre ritual in Kerala called 'Darike and Kali' - a tale of a battle between the goddess Kali and the demon Darika from Hindu mythology. As a child these characters used to seem scary & fascinating to me at the same time. There was always a certain level of apprehension in me seeing their painted faces and unusual appearances but at the same time they were so vibrant & majestic that you could not stop looking at them.
