Has there ever been a more perfect setting to shoot the stars? I drove 8 hours out to Marfa, Texas a few weeks ago with a vision of capturing the Milky Way rising behind the town’s iconic Stardust Motel sign. To my immense chagrin, I arrived to find a garbage truck parked in front of the side of the sign I would need to shoot to have the milk naturally aligning behind it. I’m never one to give up on the things I go after so I decided to composite this image - photographing the sign from the opposite side and then blending the Milky Way in. A good lesson that we must all adapt and overcome in the field to achieve our goals.
