Waterfall Bay is the genesis of modern Hong Kong.
Trading ships from Europe and America would come here in the early 1800's to replenish their water supplies; this put Hong Kong on the global map. "Hong Kong" means Fragrant Harbour in Cantonese and in this case local people were referring to the sweetness of the fresh water from the waterfall when naming this specific location. Westerners mistakenly went on to name the entire island Hong Kong, and the rest is history.
