Kru-Grebo Mask: The Seer Mask

Kru-Grebo mask were made by privileged members of the Kru people and were used during secret ceremonies and village celebrations. The Kru people are native to modern day Liberian people. They were one of the most feared people by raiders of the land centuries ago. Grebo masks till today are extremely rare. All the masks are characterized by an elongated nose and tubular eyes. These Kru masks were amongst the best of the African masks that strongly inspired Picasso at the beginning of the 20th century, and also Constantin Brancusi.
