The Airport
The 30 photographs in this chronological series were created in 2012 in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (D.R.C.), a previous home and a place I often return to. The imagery depicts Congolese exploring abandoned planes beside the runway at Goma airport. At the time, filmmaker Dan McCabe and I would often drive by and see the planes, now no longer there, which were a kind of spectacle for locals and visitors alike. They were impossible to visit, as they were located inside a Congolese military installation.
