We curate original, 100% unique, Japanese woodblock (ukiyo-e) prints from the 1850's - 1890's. The prints are selected based on the genre, artist, composition, and history. Most of our prints can be found in major museum collections around the world, in many cases our prints are superior in quality. A standard woodblock series back in 1870 Japan would run 4,000 - 7,000 handmade prints. Over wars with Korea, two world wars, numerous earthquakes, fires, and other disasters, only a small number of those prints survive to today. Once we have an original print by Kunichika, Hiroshige, Kunisada, Kuniyoshi, and other artists in our collection, we maintain it in our private collection or sell it in our online gallery. The prints we offer in this collection are images from our gallery that have been gently retouched where needed. We maintain some of the original aged-print quality because that tells the story of the journey of this authentic artwork over the years. Happy collecting!

The Great Wave off Kanagawa, also known as The Great Wave or simply The Wave, is a woodblock print by the Japanese ukiyo-e artist Hokusai. It was published sometime between 1829 and 1833 in the late Edo period as the first print in Hokusai's series Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji. The image depicts an enormous wave threatening three boats off the coast in the Sagami Bay (Kanagawa Prefecture) while Mount Fuji rises in the background. Sometimes assumed to be a tsunami, the wave is more likely to be a large rogue wave.

It is Hokusai's most famous work and is often considered the most recognizable work of Japanese art in the world.
