February 2021, I responded to a story on Ellie’s Gonsalves Instagram - what hit me was some of the public response around her choice to cut her locks off and rock the pixie cut. People unfollowed, argued, scratched, clawed, screamed and disapproved. I read some people peddling some dog-shit comments. I joked in my message not expecting a reply - I said ‘ Let me immortalise this story by painting your portrait’ 11 minutes passed by and she messaged me back - she said ‘I would love that my friend.’ I’m an artist.
