As winter's cold permeates the landscape, the glacial lakes of the Canadian Rockies begin to freeze over. Trapped in sheets of ice during the freeze are methane gas released from the organic matter below. This natural phenomenon of the glassy methane bubbles beneath the water's surface is visually mesmerizing, but my senses will never forget the complete experience. The bone-chilling cold of the wind whipping through my hair and scorching my skin at -5C while the sky fired in a 360 degree display that neutralized the frigid temps...this sunset was elemental bliss.
