Hiking through this little known Sequoia Grove in the Western Sierra Mountains was shocking. The number of Giant Sequoia tree stumps far outnumbered the living Sequoia. Hundreds of these trees stood resilient for thousands of years before falling victim to logging in the late 1800s. The massive stumps remain as a memorial to the trees that once provided for a vibrant ecosystem. The threat of logging has past but climate change has fueled "super wildfires" that have emerged as a new threat.
