The picture was taken a decade ago back in 2012. A strong aurora activity was announced for this night, and after previous, however less successful attempts I hoped very much that on this evening finally everything would fit.
As darkness increased, a strong band of northern lights appeared, first tentatively, then with full force, stretching right over Kirkjufell. The intensity of the northern lights increased more and more during the course of the evening, to erupt completely a short time later and let the entire sky glow in an eerie green, which was reflected by the snow.
This was the first Northern Lights I ever saw, an evening I will never forget.
