Set in the heart of Washington, lies one of the most historic volcanic monuments in the Pacific Northwest. Mt. St. Helens erupted in May, 1980, spreading ash across a dozen states and causing the largest landslide in recorded history. 40 years laters, the scarred landscape has recovered but without the lush, forested slopes it once had.
The transformed scenery holds a beauty of its own now. During the winter months, the mountain is covered by a dull grey/white, but as spring rolls around the whole valley becomes colored with blooming wildflowers.
