Pablo Ruiz Picasso was a Spanish painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist and theatre designer who spent most of his adult life in France. He is known to have smoked opium three times a week between the summers of 1904 – 1908. According to his biographer John Richardson, it was not a belief in the 'derangement of the senses' but an innate curiosity that made Picasso try drugs.
