During the lockdown in New York, I was very lucky to receive an artist residency on Governor’s Island. Painting in an abandoned house, during a global pandemic my mind spun with the visceral presence of the passage of time as well the mutlilayered struggles that we are all wrestling with as individuals and a collective, connected whole.
This painting brings together the black, of night, of power, of hope. For me, growing up in the country, the night sky always caused me to stop and wonder and realize I am part of something much bigger.
