Alpha endures the burning of Zozobra as a cruel and devastating sensation of anxiety that can only be described to its referent of consumption and immolation. It is the burning that resists, that is only sensation-aware, it is the devil's advocate. The Alpha, here, is the transgressor who pays the brutal price, nay the extreme one, to equal the sum of their transgressions.
