An equestrian statue to Wade Hampton III was installed in 1906 in Columbia, SC with funding from the State Commission, the United Daughters of the Confederacy, and the United Confederate Veterans. Hampton was a Confederate military officer, South Carolina Governor and Senator, and leader of the Redeemers, a political coalition that enforced white supremacy through political control. It is located at the South Carolina State House.
