Sol, God of the Sun
Greek Equivalent: Helios
Depicted here is Sol Indiges, the original Sun God of the Roman Empire. He had a small but loyal group of followers who conducted an annual sacrifice in his honour on August 9th each year.
Ultimately, Sol's cult petered out by the first century AD and he was replaced by a second Sun God, Sol Invictus. This second deity was adopted from Syrian culture and remained in place until the rise of Christianity.
