Historical Pepes: Joe "Cannon Ball" Houston

A country blues singer for the label Blue Bell from 1912-34. A longtime mentor to Charlie Patton, Joe lead the movement to make the guitar the central focus of the form, replacing the outdated banjo and jug music of the early turn of the century. He was estranged from his wife for the better part of 10 years but after finding god and sobering up, he later reconnected and healed the old relationship.
