Kaikōura is a small coastal town located in the South Island. It has a stunning backdrop of towering snow-clad mountains rising to 2600 m. The deep sea canyon below plunges to depths of 3 km which creates a unique and rare system of sea currents sustaining rich marine life.
It was such a joy to create this piece. It’s a celebration of why I adore the craft of illustration so much. I love bending and tweaking reality to create a scene which really captures the essence of a place.
I enjoyed using colour and scale to really enhance the deep dark waters and the majestic Humpback whale beneath.
