Technologies for Transcendence (to Terry Riley, La Monte Young and Evan Parker) is an audiovisual digital art object by Massimo Magee, designed to be read by the computer as both a visual still image and as an audio piece, these being two readings of the same file. The piece was shaped across both visual and audio domains functionally simultaneously, meaning that a change in the visual domain also affected the audio, and a change in the audio also affected the visual. It contains the sounds of image data with digital treatments, virtual organ generated from the image data, and live sopranino saxophone, and was all created at Massimo Magee’s studio in London, UK in 2020.
