The night before the festival of Holi begins, people prepare pyres to burn that represent the burning of Holika, a demon. The celebration is the victory of good over evil. These fine women were sitting by the side of the road, having helped prepare the fires, waiting for sunset to come when the fires would be lit and celebrations could begin. Their magnificent colourful attire was irresistible to this photographer as we waited with them.
