I spent 5 days hiking around the absolute beast of a mountain known as Ausangate. The most memorable moment of the trek was on an evening when I was delirious from altitude sickness. I felt like giving up but knew I would never forgive myself if I did. Just when I felt like I couldn't go on any longer I heard a strange "merring" in the distance that sounded like a mix between a sheep and a dog toy. As I looked up, a herd of alpacas were bounding straight at me. I had seen thousands of alpacas grazing throughout the valleys while on this trek but never had I seen them sprinting full speed.
