This still was taken in the Spring of 2020, on the eve of a seemingly endless string of global shutdowns, stay at home requests and outright quarantines. Day to day in Tokyo, you'd almost never know what was going on, or certainly not what was about to happen. This scene represents all of that to me. In the moment, I was captivated by the brilliant patterns on the woman's jacket, which acted as a shiny object to distract me from her loose grip, hand about to slip off the strap. Everyone else, precariously balanced while bouncing around, speeding forwards by means outside of their control. Trusting it will all work out, but no way of knowing for sure. If only it had.
