Intimacy between two physically distant subjects is mediated by artifacts that make it possible to construct states of closeness: physical proximity is replaced by virtual interaction. The representation of the body in familiar and private spaces becomes another form of generating togetherness. Intimacy, regardless of how it is constructed, is the sphere in which we become who we are; it is the space where the self emerges.
