The temperature in Thailand had reached 110 degrees. When I walked into a train station in Bangkok, I saw this boy holding what at first glance appeared to be a real gun. Before I could fully understand what was happening, my body reacted, and I had to take a picture. Even though I lived on the other side of the world in NYC, I felt a connection with this boy. When I was a child, I remember carrying this harmless toy, which is ultimately associated with an instrument of destruction in the real world. As I reflect on this moment, I think about myself and so many other kids in our world who are desensitized to the violence that surrounds us every day.
