This photo is a piece of Hong Kong history about one of the last hand-made signboard calligraphers in the city – Master Au Yeung Cheong. His unique calligraphy style, also known as the “Zen Script” and can be traced back to the Tang Dynasty of China, is characterised by its strong and proportionate strokes. While the era of hand-written calligraphy signboards is fast fading in favor of cheaper LED alternatives, Master Au Yeung remains in the same shophouse, continuing to perfect his art and determined to pass down his legacy.
