Iceland’s landscapes have a special, magical quality under the snow and ice, like a frozen wonderland. The iconic falls of Kirkjufellsfoss, with mount Kirkjufell behind them, always felt to me like a land of fairies, and I long envisioned photographing the waterfall and river when frozen under a contrasting, warm sunset sky.
Over the course of three years, I came back many times to Iceland and to Kirkjufellsfoss before I could find the scene as I wanted it. When that happened, in February 2020, a frozen wonderland truly unraveled in front of my eyes.
