Once upon a midnight sky,
the wind carried a tune.
The sound of sobs caressed my ears,
beneath a swollen moon.
.
For whom is crying these salty tears,
and why are they in pain?
Are they alone, and struggling,
do they need a friend to gain?
.
A shoulder, they might beg to have,
if a shoulder should appear.
A comfort known to many,
it helps allay their fears.
.
But what I find, around the bend,
is not what I thought I’d see.
I stare in awe, afraid to move,
as she reaches out for me.
.
Lying there, before my eyes,
a human, she is not.
Black wings appear, behind her back,
the fallen angel of my heart.
