At one point in my art career, I decided to take a risk and really let myself create the things I really wanted to create, things that I thought were unoriginal and unlikable. This was one of those paintings. I made her skin color unrealistic, wearing glasses I thought were cool, and a very simple portrait that I was afraid would be too uninteresting. It was like for the first time, I was really seeing me.
