Manolo Gamboa Naon has been called the first prodigy of generative art. While he deflects this praise, those of us who know his work know that it’s true. In an incredible burst of energy from 2014 to 2020, Manolo created a sequence of images unlike anything seen before, which went on to influence the next generation of artists who code. After a pause from exhibiting work, he’s returning to premiere the vivid “uneasy dream,” a continuously-evolving generative animation that surges, expands, and contracts in an ongoing flow.
