Mauna Kea, the tallest mountain in the world at 33,500 feet tall from its base at the bottom of the ocean, was unlike anything I had ever seen. We had to rent a 4x4 truck to drive to the top and made sure to chug water to try and avoid getting sick. After spending a few hours exploring, the altitude sickness kicked in and we had to head down before sunset. I was able to capture the craters on some expired Tri-X film that I bought in 2011 right after graduating university. I had to give up film for a bit because I could no longer afford it, but have recently come back to it and using the film I bought when I had no idea what my life would be like now was a pretty full circle moment.
