On February 26 the arrival of charged particles from the sun blasted the Earths magnetosphere. The result of two flares, an M3.7 and an M6.3 which occurred two day previous from sunspot 3229. Triggering an extraordinary display of aurora seen as far south as the central United States. For those of us at the mid to high latitudes it was the best show of the past year.
