On the first day on South Georgia Island, this fur seal popped its head out from behind the rocks to check out our boat as we past by. It kept ducking down and then up which was very fun to see.
The Antarctic Treaty was signed into effect December 1, 1959 to become the only continent with no territorial sovereignty. This was to ensure that all who came, came with peaceful purposes only, so no nuclear waste or production to be established here. This agreement also promotes international scientific cooperation in Antarctica and helps preserve the fragile balance of life.
