I recorded the sun in a picture of Ukraine on my screen with my iPhone. I focused the camera’s gaze through my fingers as though trying to glimpse the sun without the attendant pain of looking directly at it. Here, the light of the screen illuminates the blood in my hand creating red vignettes through which the camera struggles to record the sun; the camera’s image sensor conflicts with the screen’s resolution creating ominous moiré patterns on a sun that disappears into red.
