Our first introduction to the green and blue waters of Gjende and Bessvatnet was, not surprisingly, on a popular photo-sharing app. We loved the aquatic contrast, and we immediately set to adding it to our itinerary! The idea of a lake hanging above another lake was too cool to pass up.
To start the Besseggen Ridge hike, you take a ferry to the halfway point of the green waters of Gjende lake. From there, it's a steep scramble and a long slog along the ridge; at one point, you're in the middle of both lakes, with only a few hundred feet (and a bit of a drop) on either side to their shores...
